Description	View of a number of sailing vessels apparently caught in the ice. Men pulling a whaleboat across the ice can be seen in the foreground. Also visible on the ice are men pushing or pulling barrels, a tent, and several boats.
Notes	Title at bottom center reads: "LOSS OF THE MC LELLAN". Visible at bottom left: "Commr. W.W. May, Del."; and at bottom right: "Day [and] Son. Lithrs. to the Queen"; an at top right: "PL II". Hand-colored lithograph on sheet, 10 1/6 x 14 1/8 in. The McLellan was built in Bath, Maine, 1825. She made whaling and sealing voyages to the Arctic until her loss near Melville Bay, Davis Strait, off Greenland in 1852. Sidney O. Budington of Groton served as mate on the McLellan early in his career.
