Description	Eight men wearing military uniforms pose in front of a rocky cliff. Two men, one of whom appears to be wounded and has a bandage on his head, are seated on a stone bench. Some men have swords. Some men have beards or mustaches. One man rests his foot on a cannon ball. Another man rests his foot on an artillery shell.
Notes	Sanford H. Perkins was mustered in as a captain in the First Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery on May 23, 1861. He was promoted to major on June 7, 1862. He was from Torrington. Thomas S. Gilbert was mustered in as a captain in the First Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery on May 22, 1861. He resigned on November 19, 1862 and later served with the Third Connecticut Light Battery. He was from Derby. During 1862, the First Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery took part in the Siege of Yorktown.
