Description	The sampler centers on a memorial vignette depicting a grave monument in the form of an obelisk. Two churches, a large house and other buildings line a street below the central image. A cherub, three birds and a butterfly surround the image, which is flanked by inscriptions. The first inscription reads "They are like/ grass: - In the/ morning it flour-/ isheth and grow-/ est up: in the/ evening it is cut/ down and/ withererth". The second inscription is "But the mercy/ of the Lord is/ from everlasting/ to everlasting/ upon them that/ fear him and/ his righteousness/ unto children,s/ children". The third inscription is "There is a voice by sorrow heard/ When heaviest weighs life,s galling chain/ That voice is the Almighty,s word/ The pure in heart shall meet again". The fourth inscription is "Wrought by Martha."
Notes	Martha Street was the only daughter of Betsey and James Street. James served as town clerk and church deacon in the town of Prospect, Connecticut. Martha's teacher was Mary Curtis Spencer, also of Prospect. Martha's sampler commemorates her mother Betsey, who died in 1834.
