Description	Five Inuit pose indoors at Repulse Bay, Hudson Bay, January 24, 1902.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger.<br>The number 87 in the image was etched into the original photographic plate.<br>Taken by Captain George Comer (1858-1937), a sealer and whaling captain from East Haddam. He went to sea while still in his teens and was later master of vessels from both New London and New Bedford. Comer participated in voyages involved in polar expeditions and was noted for his studies of Arctic peoples and their environment. Comer's typewritten caption on rear identifies this group as "Natives of the Chesterfield Inlet Tribe/ West coast of Hudson Bay." The caption for the original glassplate negative for this image (1963.1767.134) identifies the people as "Iglulic [Iglulik] natives." This designation seems more likely, since the Iglulik occupied the Foxe Basin area, much closer to Comer's Repulse Bay location, where the photo was taken.
