Notes
Nancy
Hale
(1785-1808)
was the
youngest
of
eleven
children
of
Mary
and
Gideon
Hale
of
Glastonbury
. She was a
pupil
at
Sarah
Pierce's
school
in
Litchfield
.
Nancy
based
her
design
on an
aquatint
print
published
in
London
in
1799
and
probably
inspired
by the
poem
"
Autumn
" by
James
Thomson
.
