Description	Sampler includes a horizontal band of pictorial motifs: a heart hanging from a chain, a floral swag, and a double-heart design hanging from a double chain. The first inscription is "Miranda Robinson aged 8 years". The second inscription is "Say Brook July 10 AD 1839". The third inscription is "Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand/ At the first efforts of an infants hand." The fourth inscription is "The path of duty is the path of safety".
Notes	Miranda Robinson's parents, Catherine Dowry (1802-1856) and John Robinson (1801-1870), were both born in Connecticut as free blacks. Miranda and her brother, George, are listed in the 1860 census as employess of Samuel Colt and his wife Elizabeth Hart Jarvis. At age 39, Miranda married Joseph P. Anderson, a slightly younger widower from Wilmington, Delaware. At the time of Miranda's death at age sixty-eight, she was listed as a practical nurse.
