Description	Three-story brick commercial building has striped awnings and signs that read: "Torrington / Electric Light Co." "The Workman-[L]awlinson Co." "C & C [?] Furniture Co. / 1884." The striped pole in front of the frame building at the right indicates a barbershop. Signs on the porch read: "Farnham House" and "Ruppert's Ale." The hotel has striped awnings, louvered shutters and a cupola. A horse-drawn carriage is near the sidewalk. Trolley tracks are in the dirt street which is lined with utility poles and trees, including elms. The metal sides of a bridge are immediately beyond the hotel. Inscribed on back: "So. Main Looking North / Torrington / on Left Red Brick / on Right Gray." "No. 6 South Main St. / looking North / Torrington / Conn."<br>
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. <br>Additional notes not related to the image are on the back in German. August Schmelzer had the photographs taken and sent to Germany to be made into post cards. <br>William H. Farnham was the proprietor of the Farnham House and Livery Stable. <br>
