Description	Large oak tree without leaves. A picket fence, a frame house and a brick house are in the background, largely concealed by the tree. A figure, probably a woman, stands at the left. Letterpress inscription glued to the back: "A Historical Curiosity / In 1661 Charles Second granted a Charter to Connecticut. In 1686 / Sir Edmund Andros was sent over by King James Second to resume the / Charter... Capt. Joseph Wadsworth... carried away the Charter and hid it in the Charter Oak, which stood in Hartford until August, 1856, when it was blown down in a storm... The negative of this wonderful Historical Curiosity was made in 1855...In June 1880,...this [negative] came to light...and then, for the first time were discovered, in the outlines of the branches against the sky, two perfectly formed heads-one very much resembling the bust of Washington..."<br>
Notes	The pattern in the upper part of the image which is said to resemble two heads is due to flaking emulsion on the 1855 negative which was reprinted in 1880. <br>
