Description	A man, woman and boy in seventeenth-century clothing walk along a path beside a body of water, presumably the Connecticut River. The man has a beard and mustache and carries a small child. He wears a broad-brimmed hat, breeches and hose. The woman carries a book. The boy carries a musket. Native Americans, one with a bow, one with an axe or tomahawk, are behind rocks and trees at the left. Men in a sailing vessel haul a fish net at the far right. Another vessel is in the background. The Connecticut State Seal is at the top of the image. It includes three grapevines and a banner that reads: "Qui transtulit sustinet. (He who transplanted will sustain.)<br>
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. <br>Wood-engraving published in Ballou's Pictorial, August 25, 1855. <br>According to the accompanying article, the "Puritan pioneer on his way to church... little suspects... that a Pequot warrior is dodging his footsteps and that on his return from divine service he will find his home desolate." <br>
