Description	Men, women, boys and a girl stand on the sandy beach, in the water of Long Island Sound, and on the grass. One woman wears a shawl. One holds a parasol. A horse-drawn carriage is on a rutted road through the grass at the right. Rowboats and a small sailboat are on the beach. Two wooden buildings are probably boathouses or bathhouses. In the right background are a tent and a rustic shelter erected around a tall pole, possibly a flagpole. Frame buildings and trees are in the background. Inscribed on back: "Westbrook in the summer of 1872 was developed / as CT's 1st beach resort after a pier was / built out across the shallows allowing / steamboats to disembark passengers."<br>
