Description	A stagecoach ascends a stone causeway towards the crest of a steep hill on the right. A saltbox and its outbuildings stand among trees at the top of the hill. The hillside on the left is rocky with scattered trees. A man probably intended as a self-portrait, sits sketching in front of a stone wall in the foreground.<br>
Notes	Preliminary drawing for Connecticut Historical Collections, John Warner Barber, New Haven, 1836. <br>In 1779, General Israel Putnam descended this hill on horseback in order to escape the British troops. <br>
