Description	View of Main Street, looking north. Ranks of men in uniforms, including swords, capes and bearskin (?) hats. Most men wear medals. Some carry flags. A man in front rides a horse. Other men on horseback and horse-drawn carriages are in the background. Trolley tracks are in the street. Spectators crowd the sidewalks. Utility poles line both sides of the street. A street light hangs by a rope and pulley from a pole in the foreground. The commercial buildings in the background are, from right to left: Brown Thompson & Co. and G. Fox & Co. Signs read: "The Great Sale / of the Year" "Our Annual / Cost Sale" "Biggest Stock of Merchandise / In the State" "Everything / at cost or less." "Fox's." The gothic church in the background is the First Baptist Church. Beyond the church, a sign painted on the side of a building reads: "Union Grocery." Inscribed on back: "Jan. 1901" "Parade - Governor McLean's inauguration / Jan. 1901."<br>
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. <br>George P. McLean of Simsbury was governor of Connecticut from 1901-1903. <br>John A. Pilgard was the proprietor of the Union Grocery at 1026-1032 Main Street, Hartford. <br>Brown, Thomson & Company advertised itself as "Connecticut's biggest department store" and "Hartford's Great Shopping Center." <br>G. Fox & Company, a large department and dry goods store, was located at 956-986 Main Street. <br>
