Description	Men, women and a small girl stand around a maypole holding streamers. The woman in the center wears a wreath of flowers. Many women wear elaborate hats. Men wear suits. Most people have paper tags attached to their clothes. They stand on a grassy lawn with flower gardens and a tall hedge in the background. At least one tree appears to be an elm. Letterpress text beneath image: "L.P. / First Annual Pilgrimage behind the Hedge / Hartford, Connecticut, May, 1909." Inscribed on back: "Miss Florence Griswold of Lyme, Conn., is the May Queen. / Most of the people are artists from Miss Florence's. / 1st lady on left is Peggy Lewis later Mrs. Lincoln McVeigh... / Peggy Lewis taught / H.P.H.S. at the time and was a graduate of Bryn Mawr / Second lady is Mary Bulkeley of Htfd. 3rd lady is Emily Perkins Knapp / and 4th is Lucy Perkins. Walter Griffith of Lyme is kneeling / in front of her. Tom Perkins is the 3rd gentleman from the right not counting child / behind maypole in dark dress & hat. 2nd gentleman from right next Tom is Kenneth Adams, he lived in the house at the time."<br>
