Description	View of Main Street, looking north. A parade of carriages drawn by teams of two or four horses is on the trolley tracks in the middle of the street. Men wearing top hats drive the carriages. Men in uniform on horseback are on either side of the first carriage. A band is in the distance at the far left. Musicians play a trombone, a tuba, a large drum and other instruments. Spectators crowd the sidewalks. Utility poles line both sides of the street. A street light hangs by a rope and pulley from a pole in the foreground. The commercial buildings in the background are, from right to left: Brown Thompson & Co. and G. Fox & Co. Signs read: "The Great Sale / of the Year" "Our Annual / Cost Sale" "Biggest Stock of Merchandise / In the State" "Everything / at cost or less." "Fox's." The gothic church in the background is the First Baptist Church. Beyond the church, a sign painted on the side of a building reads: "Union Grocery."<br>
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. <br>Brown, Thomson & Company advertised itself as "Connecticut's biggest department store" and "Hartford's Great Shopping Center." <br>G. Fox & Company, a large department and dry goods store, was located at 956-986 Main Street. <br>John A. Pilgard was the proprietor of the Union Grocery at 1026-1032 Main Street, Hartford. <br>George P. McLean of Simsbury was governor of Connecticut from 1901-1903. <br>
