Description	Three-story stone warehouse and commercial building at the corner of Ferry Street and Commerce Street. A stenciled sign reads: "E. Gross & / Co. / Cash / Paid for Rags / Rubber / Metals." The brick commercial building at the right has a broken window. A frame building farther down the street has a cellar hatchway. A woman stands in an open door at the far right. A man squats nearby. A handcart is in the dirt street, near the sidewalk. Street signs are on the corner of the stone building and on a derelict light post. A gas light hangs from wires in the foreground. Utility poles and wires run along the street.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Edward Gross and Samuel Barden or Bordon were the partners in E. Gross & Co., dealers in rags, paper stock, rubber and metal, at 63 & 65 Ferry Street. According to Hartford Jews, a book by Rabbi Morris Silverman, published in 1970, Edward Gross, the founder of E. Gross & Co., was born in Hungary in 1859. He settled in Hartford in 1883 and died in 1936. Part of a series of photographs taken of buildings scheduled for demolition during the construction of the Bulkeley Bridge.
