Description	Brick and frame commercial buildings line a snow-covered street. The building at the right, which has been damaged by fire, has signs that read: "P.Wilson / New England Brew Co.'s / Ales & Lager" "Wilson's New England / Brewing Co.'s / Extra / Lager / Ales / and Port[er]" A man in winter clothes stands nearby. A gas street light is at the far right. The brick building with louvered shutters at the left is partially boarded up and in dilapidated condition. The overpass of the Connecticut Valley Railroad is at the far left. A sign on the utility pole at the far left reads: "Commerce St." Inscribed on back: "The building next the Valley Railroad tracks / was built in 1835 by Edwin Taylor (my father) / who kept a store there years before a railroad / in Hartford at the steamboat landing which / was the centre [sic] of business at that time. / The taller building beside it was built by / Benjamin Taylor (my uncle). The partially / burned wooden building was the store of Francis / Taylor (an uncle), after him Perry Smith then / Geo. C. Washburn, burned in 1904 & torn down. / This is at the foot of State Street, south side."
