Description	Frame Greek revival structure painted in contrasting colors. The house has two-story columns, a Palladian window in the front gable, French doors opening onto the porch, and louvered shutters at some windows. The brick foundation includes arched openings beneath the portico. An exterior stairway on the wing on the left leads to the porch. A stone retaining wall is at the right. An octagonal covered well is at the left. A grassy lawn is in front of the house. Elm trees and a paved sidewalk line the dirt road in the foreground.A man stands near a horse-drawn carriage at the far right. In the far-left background, cows graze in a fenced pasture. Inscribed on back: "James [illegible] Cowles" "Gen. George Cowles / 1780 [sic] / Farmington."
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The General George Cowles house is located at 130 Main Street. It was built in 1802 as a wedding present for his daughter.
