Description	The building at the left has arched doors and windows on the ground floor, a striped awning and signs that read: "228 / Downing / & / Perkins / Carmen""228 / Public / Warehouse." The building on the right has signs that read: "A. Hoffman, Cigar Manufacturer" "Emil Schmidt / Cigar / Manufacturer / 230" "Thos. Attie / Cigar / Factory" "Office / Hartford / Board Co." "Hartford Harness Co." Advertisement reads: "Horses Neigh / for / 5A / Blankets." Horse blankets and other merchandise are displayed in the shop windows. Two windows are broken. A gaslight hangs from a utility pole. A fire hydrant is on the sidewalk. A man in a derby hat and overcoat stands beside the building.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Daniel C. Perkins and Mrs. Henrietta Downing were the partners in Downing & Perkins, Carmen, 228 State Street. They advertised "Teams constantly in readiness for transportation of all kinds of merchandise to or from [railroad] cars or boat and about town." Hartford Harness Co., F.M. Fricker, proprietor, was at 230 State Street. None of the cigar manufacturers were in business in 1906. Part of a series of photographs taken of buildings scheduled for demolition during the construction of the Bulkeley Bridge.
