Description	Crowds of men, women, boys, and girls stand on both sides of Main Street as men in military uniforms, some on horses, march down the road. To the right, horses and carriages are beside the road. Most of the spectators wear hats. The stone and brick commercial buildings include the Old State House City Hall, Phoenix National Bank, the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. and the branch office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Signs on the buildings read "" Werder's Candy" "" Rich Jewelry" "French Clocks" "Erichson and Maclean" "Entrance" "" NO.5 Asylum St./ Standard Time/Connecticut" "" Hartford Dancing Academy" "" Shoes" "Branch office 10f/ Metropolitan Life INS.CO./ New York" "City Hotel". Bunting and American flags hang from most of the buildings. People stand on ledges and in windows. Policemen are in the crowd. The clock on the sidewalk reads 1:30. The spires in the background are probably those of The First Church of Christ, 675 Main St, Church of the Redeemer, 686 Main St, and St. John's Episcopal Church, 580 Main St. Inscribed on back: "" Departure of / First Inf. C.NG /to muster in as/ First C.V for / Spanish American/ War May 4, 1898./ Head of REG'T [?] passing reviewing/ stand at City Hall.(C.W.B. with a campaign hat) First Regiment C.N.G/ leaving Hartford for Camp at /Niantic to muster in as First C.V.I May 4, 1898."
Notes	The Old State House is at 800 Main Street. Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. is at 783 Main Street and Metropolitan Life is at 803 Main Street.
