Description	Two men in military uniforms are in the foreground. One man sits on a rock and smokes a pipe. A damaged split rail fence and a tree stump are nearby. In the background in an open field are farm buildings, including a barn with a stone foundation, what appears to be an orchard of fruit trees, a man and a horse, a large tent, a wagon and a covered wagon, earthworks and a stone wall, possibly part of the foundation of a ruined building. Rows of tents or small temporary [?] cabins are in the right background. There appears to be a body of water in the right distance. Letterpress text beneath image: "Camp of the 18th Connecticut Volunteers, at Hallowell, Virginia. / Drawn by J.H. Sawyer." Inscribed, lower margin: "1. Colonels Quarters / 2. Mail Carriers [Quarters] / 3. Quarter Masters [Quarters] / 4. Surgeons [Quarters] / 5. Commissary Sergeants [Quarters] / 6. Hospital Stewards Quarters / 7. Crib, used by Wagoners for Quarters / 8. Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. <br>A sutler is a person following an army to sell things to its soldiers. <br>Private James H. Sawyer of Woodstock joined the 18th Connecticut Volunteers on August 18, 1862. He served until June 27, 1865. <br>The 18th Connecticut Volunteers were engaged in battles at Halltown and Charlestown, Virginia from August 22-26, 1864. <br>
