Description	Rural Farmington River dam site. An automobile is in the right foreground. Inscription on back: "Farmington p.18 / Site of first Grist Mill on Farmington River" "The site of the probably first grist-mill built on river (1701) and where a mill has been sustained until the present day. Now known as The Winchell Smith Mill. Used to bag and store his flours."
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Winchell Smith (1871-1933), a noted playwright, owned this mill site. In the 1920s, D. W. Griffith and Company filmed a scene in the movie "Way Down East" here at the invitation of Smith. The mill was subsequently used as a restaurant.
