manufacturers

company
was
established
in
1826
as
Collins
&
Co
. by
Samuel
W
. and
David
C
.
Collins

co-partnership
failed
and in
May
1834
the
Collins
Manufacturing
Company
was
chartered
by the
Connecticut
legislature
for the
purpose
of
manufacturing
axes
and
edge
tools
. This
corporation
was
given
the
right
to
stamp
the
name
"
Collins
&
Co.
" as their
trade-mark
on the
articles
which
they
manufactured
. The
business
address
was in
Hartford
and the
manufacturing
establishment
located
at
Collinsville
, in the
town
of
Canton
.
It
was the
major
employer
in the
