Description	Frame center-chimney Colonial house with brick chimney, clapboard siding, and a saltbox slope at the back. The leafless tree on the grassy lawn is probably an oak. Outbuildings beyond a rail fence at the right appear to be barns and sheds. There is a triangular window in the gable of the largest outbuilding. Trees at the left behind a picket fence appear to be fruit trees. Inscribed on back: "The Horace Barnard House on Retreat Avenue / north side near Washington St. Very old. / The work ('Early Connecticut Houses') by Isham & Brown / calls this the 'Dorus Barnard' House, which like the John Barnard house was built in 1660 [?] by Robert / son of Governor John Webster. It took its present name / from Capt. John Barnard's son Dorus who owned it in / the century 1800 to 1810. It was demolished in 1899."
