Description	In the foreground, men in uniform drill in an open grassy field. Some fire rifles. One man appears to use a ramrod to clean his gun. Two men carry buckets. One soldier is on horseback. Spectators include men, women and boys. Some men and boys appear to be African-American. Two African-American men carry a dead pig or calf on a pole. Rows of tents and an American flag are in the background. Frame buildings surrounded by a board fence are at the left. A church steeple is in the distance among trees. Inscribed in stone: "Camp of the 13th Regt. Conn. Vols. / at Thibodeaux [sic], La." Lower left: "Sketched by P. Genlieu of Co. B 1863." Lower right: "Lith. Of F. Ratellier 23 Dey St. New York."<br>
Notes	Most of the soldiers in the 13th Connecticut Volunteers came from New Haven or Fairfield County. <br>
