Description	Row of commercial and residential buildings in stone and brick are on a dirt road. The first house is in the Greek Revival style has Ionic columns, side balcony, pediment, and two entrances to full height entry porch. Building with turret, clock tower, and Palladian windows. Utility poles are by the paved sidewalk. Several horse drawn carriages are on both sides of the road. Sign reads "Hardware." Inscribed on back: "No.1 / Main St. looking north from College St. / Middletown, Conn. / 1. private residence / 2. Municipal Building / 3. Middletown National Bank / 4. Bank Block / 5. Custom House and Post Office."<br>
Notes	Additional notes not related to the image are on the back in German. August Schmelzer had the photographs taken and sent them to Germany to be made into post cards. <br>The buildings are from left to right the Nehemia Hubbard Jr. residence, the Municipal Building, Middletown National Bank, the Bank Block, and the Custom House and Post Office. <br>
