constructed

McDonald
&
Sons

Mystic
. She was
built
for
New
London
businessmen
Carlos
Barry
,
William
Booth
and
others
, and
launched
in
1903
. The
William
Booth
carried
cargo
for a
number
of
years
until
a
collision
with the
Helen
Barnet
Gring
off
the
Massachusetts
coast
,
April
28
,
1928
. She was
carrying
a
load
of
granite
from
Maine
to
New
York
.
Shipbuilder
Michael
B
.
McDonald
had
worked
in
Madison
,
New
London
and
Noank
before
launching
M.B
.
McDonald
&
Sons
on
Pistol
Point
in
Mystic
,
which
he
operated
from
1903
to
1905
. The
firm
built
ten
coasting
schooners
and a
barge
in this
time
period
before
going
into
bankruptcy
in
1905
. The
losses
of
two
McDonald-built
vessels
not
long
after
their
launchings
may
have
played
a
part
in the
company's
financial
troubles
.
