Description	Port bow view of the wooden steamship Hokah at launching, Groton Iron Works, Noank plant, August 31, 1918. Vessel is sliding downways.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Place and date are identified on the mount, but date conflicts with information pertaining to other images (1961.1169, 1974.1037.6) of the Hokah, which indicate the launch date was June 4 or 9, 1918. The August 31 date may be based on the date the vessel was acquired by the U.S. Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation. This corporation was formed ten days after the United States entered World War I in 1917. It was commissioned to build, equip, maintain and operate merchant vessels. Groton Iron Works had its main yard on the Thames in Groton and a second yard on the site of the former Palmer shipyard in Noank. It built a number of iron and wood-hulled vessels during and after World War I. The Noank yard ceased production in 1919. The Groton yard continued until 1928. Mounted on cardboard.
