Description	Starboard view of the menhaden steamer Raymond J. Anderton underway. A skyline, possibly Manhattan, can be seen in the background behind the vessel. In the distance to the right of the bow a bridge and shoreline are visible.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Raymond J. Anderton was a screw steamer built by Robert Palmer & Son, Noank in 1911. She was purchased by the Navy in 1917 and served as a minesweeper in World War I as the USS Raymond J. Anderton. Decommissioned in 1919, she was sold to foreign buyers. The Palmer family's shipbuilding and repair facility, in operation from the mid-19th century until 1914, was one of the most prominent on the east coast. It was incorporated under several names and experienced substantial growth in the second half of the 19th century, specializing in the production of utilitarian barges and floats. The yard employed 400 men on average in the first decade of the 20th century.
