. The
Charles
Henry
Mallory
house
was
built
and
later
enlarged
and
remodeled
with
profits
made
from
whaling
,
shipping
and
shipbuilding
by the
family
firm
.
It
was
used
mostly
as a
summer
house
for the
New
York-based
Mallory
after
1870
.
It
was
later
a
boarding
house
,
referred
to as
Lamphere
House
, and was
torn
down
in the
early
twentieth
century
to be
replaced
by an
auto
service
station
. A
Bess
Eaton
doughnut
shop
now
occupies
the
site
.
Charles
H
.
Mallory
was the
son
of
Charles
Mallory
,
founder
of the
family's
sail
making
and
maritime
enterprises
.
