Description	Winter view apparently looking across the Mystic River toward the Holmes Coal Company and wharf on Holmes Street, Mystic. The rear of the Newbury Block can be seen in the background, and to the right, a building identified as the old Mystic Theatre; both structures front on East Main Street. Snow can be seen on the buildings and the ground, and ice on the river.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Photographed by Everett A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913. Coal predominated as a fuel for cooking and heating in the second half of the nineteenth century in Mystic. The Newbury Block took its name from an important local business owned by Thomas H. Newbury, who sold plumbing (including ship plumbing), sheet metal and hardware goods and services. The commercial building in which the store was located was known earlier as the Mallory Block, and later came to be known as the Newbury Block.
