Description	Oval portrait of a woman identified as Mary Esther Blodgett Fish (Mrs. James Dean Fish). She is seated with her left elbow resting on a small round table. She wears a dark dress with a very full skirt and a white collar. Her hair is parted in the middle and pulled back, covering her ears.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Mary Esther Blodgett Fish was the wife of Mystic native James Dean Fish (1819-1912), son of Asa Fish and Prudence Dean. James Dean Fish became a well-known New York city businessman and banker, his Marine National Bank prospering from the 1860's to its collapse in 1884. His store and later banking business were important in establishing and maintaining a Mystic-New York connection. His career ended dramatically in financial scandal that had national and local impact. Tentative dating based on clothing and dating of related image. Mounted on oval mat, 10 x 8 in.
