Description	View of West Main Street, Mystic, showing men gathered around the base of the partially dismantled liberty pole prior to its move to East Main Street. Building in the left distance is Washington Hall.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Handwritten on back "Erecting liberty Pole in Mystic". The flagpole was actually erected in 1862. This photo shows the pole being taken down in 1876. It was moved from the Groton to the Stonington side of Mystic in 1876. Its new location was on the corner of East Main and Cottrell Streets next to Washington Hall. Washington Hall, also known as the Exchange Block, was built in 1850 and burned in 1885. Taken by Everett A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913. Albumen prints mounted on pale yellow card, rounded corners.
