Description	Port view of cargo liner Dakota at anchor in harbor.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dakota was built 1904 by Eastern Shipbuilding company of Groton, and owned by Great Northern Steamship Co. She was lost off Shirahama, Japan, March 3, 1907. Eastern Shipbuilding was in business from 1900 until shortly after the launch of the Dakota. It had been taken over by the United States Shipping Corporation in 1902. New London Ship and Engine Company (Nelseco) took over the site in 1910. Shortly thereafter Nelseco officially became a subsidiary of submarine maker Electric Boat Company. The company manufactured diesel engines for submarines on the former Eastern Shipbuilding site and later, submarines for the Navy.
