Description	View of Main Street (now Eugene O'Neill Drive), New London, taken from "Buttonwood Corner" at the intersection of State Street and Main. Street lights (gas lamps?) are visible at left. A large building identified as the Rogers Block can be seen at right. Awnings project over the first floor. A man stands on the sidewalk to the left just beyond a street light. Several trees can be seen on either side of the street.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Written in pencil on reverse "c. 1865 Rogers Blk on Right/ Built 1856/ MainSt. from/ Corner of State St./ from Buttonwood Corner/ TB/ WE" Buttonwood Corner, the northeast corner of Main and State Streets, was named for a buttonwood tree (native species of sycamore) that stood on that spot until removed in 1856. It was also known as the Liberty Tree, and the corner it marked was a central place in New London from revolutionary times on.
