Description	Starboard view of menhaden steamer Aeronaut at pier, possibly near Noank. The crew is posing on deck; a pulley cart is visible on the pier.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Mount is torn on upper right corner. Aeronaut (later Rudolph), was a screw steamer built by Charles Mallory & Sons, Mystic, 1875, as a menhaden steamer. She was owned by Gurdon Gates and Charles Mallory, then Gallup, Holmes & Co. of Groton and later G. S.Allyn & Co. of Mystic. One of her captains was Leander Wilcox of Mystic. In 1884 she was sold to the Merchant's Lightery Co. of New York and overhauled as a freight boat at D. O. Richmond's boatyard. Boat dimensions: 96' x 20.4' x 7. The Charles Mallory & Sons shipyard was located on the east (Stonington) bank of the Mystic River, approximately on the site of the present duPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport. It produced a number of sail and steam vessels from 1851 to 1875, with the Civil War period the most active.
