Stonington
Steamship
Company

which
was
acquired
by the
New
York
,
New
Haven
&
Hartford
Railroad
in
1892
. She was
one
of a
steamer
fleet
providing
rail-steamboat
service
connecting
New
York
and
New
England
cities
.
Taken
from the
Groton
Monument
,
which
was
erected
in
1830
to
commemorate
the
massacre
at
Fort
Griswold
in
1781
. In
schoolbook
writing
pad
converted
to
photo
album
described
as "The
beginning
of the
good

made
a
voyage
to the
Indian
Ocean
to
gather
ornithological
specimens
.
Blossom
was
fitted
out
in
New
London
and
sailed
out
of that
port
circa
1923
.
