Rossie
mill
(built
1898)
produced
quality
velvet
and at its
height
,
employed
over
200
workers
using
150
looms
. The
mill
building
was
expanded
a
number
of
times
.
It
is
now
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
.
Mystic
Manufacturing
Company
occupied
the
site
of
earlier
textile
enterprises
,
including
a
mill
owned
by
George
Greenman
&
Company
. The
brick
buildings
have
survived
and
include
the
gambrel-roofed
building
in the
center
of the
complex
,
now
called
the
Stillman
Building
;
all
are
presently
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
. The
area
along
the
Mystic
River
on the
Stonington
side
north
of
downtown
Mystic
was
known
as
Greenmanville
. The
Greenman
brothers
lived
and had their
shipyard
and
mill
in this
area
in the
nineteenth
century
.
