Description	Panoramic view of Stonington Borough waterfront and Harbor circa 1918-1919, looking north, after the launching of the freighter Ashland at the Ship Construction and Trading Co. Docks, lumber, cranes, a derrick and other structures, both commercial and residential can also be seen. People are visible on both sides of the launching area and along the docks. A wagon and other horse-drawn vehicle are in the center middle distance. A dormered frame building is prominent in the right foreground; a woman is standing in one of the doorways. On the near side of the house a group of women and children are approaching the shipyard, and behind it a pitch-roofed house and steeple are visible.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Ship Construction and Trading Co. was given a contract to build two freighters for the government during the World War I period; 320 men were employed on the project. The company occupied sites along the Stonington Borough waterfront, including the former rail-steamboat terminal of the New England Navigation Co. and the old Stonington Railroad roundhouse. Ashland was a wood screw vessel 268 feet x 46 feet by 26 feet.
