had a
long
history
in
Mystic
under
a
variety
of
names
.
Founded
in
1843
as the
Reliance
Machine
Company
,
which
manufactured
cotton
gins
and
later
marine
engines
,
it
underwent
a
number
of
changes
of
ownership
and
name
.
It
became
the
Standard
Machinery
Co
.
sometime
after
1873
.
Bookbinding
machinery
was
among
the
products
manufactured
. In
1904
the
company
was
purchased
by
Charles
E
.
Wheeler
and the
older
buildings
replaced
with a
brick
one
.
