Description	Starboard view of the Quinnebaug on the building ways at M.B. McDonald Shipyard, Mystic. A large building is visible to the right. Handwritten date in lower left: "Sept 14-03".
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Quinnebaug was built to carry lumber. Handwritten on mount: "4 masted schooner of 598 tons, built at the M.B. McDonald shipyard (formerly the Irons & Grinnell yard) at Mystic Conn. And launched Nov. 24, 1903. Lost with all hands before the completion of her second trip. She was the first four-master to come out with a 'bald-headed' rig'". Shipbuilder Michael B. McDonald had worked in Madison, New London and Noank before launching M.B. McDonald & Sons on Pistol Point in Mystic, which he operated from 1903 to 1905. The firm built ten coasting schooners and a barge in this time period before going into bankruptcy in 1905. The loss of the Quinnebaug and another McDonald-built vessel may have played a part in the company's financial troubles.
