Description	Starboard bow view of the schooner Quinnebaug on the building ways at M.B. McDonald Shipyard, Pistol Point, Mystic. Two other vessels under construction and a shipyard building can be seen to the right of the Quinnebaug.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Handwritten in pen on back "Rob't. C. Northam/ P.O. Box 99,/ Mystic[?]". The Quinnebaug was built for Captain C.A. Davis and others of Somerset, Massachusetts. She was launched in November 1903, reportedly the first four-masted schooner with no topmasts. Built to carry lumber, she was lost with all hands on her second voyage in 1904. Shipbuilder Michael B. McDonald had worked in Madison, New London and Noank before launching M.B. McDonald & Sons on Pistol Point in Mystic, which he operated from 1903 to 1905. The firm built ten coasting schooners and a barge in this time period before going into bankruptcy in 1905. The loss of the Quinnebaug and another McDonald-built vessel may have played a part in the company's financial troubles. Mounted on gray card, 5 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. Slightly soiled.
