Davis
and
others
of
Somerset
,
Massachusetts
. She was
launched
in
November
1903
,
reportedly
the
first
four-masted
schooner
with
no
topmasts
.
Built
to
carry
lumber
, she was
lost
with
all
hands
on her
second
voyage
in
1904
.
Shipbuilder
Michael

.
McDonald
had
worked
in
Madison
,
New
London
and
Noank
before
launching
M.B
.
McDonald
&
Sons
on
Pistol
Point
in
Mystic
,
which
he
operated
from
1903
to
1905
. The
firm
built
ten
coasting
schooners
and a
barge
in this
time
period
before
going
into
bankruptcy
in
1905
. The
loss
of the
Quinnebaug
and
another
McDonald-built
vessel
may
have
played
a
part
in the
company's
financial
troubles
.
