. The
firm
built
ten
coasting
schooners
and a
barge
in this
time
period
before
going
into
bankruptcy
in
1905
. The
schooners
were
completed
in
1905
under
the
supervision
of
W
.
J
.
(William
J.)
Baker
. The
Charles
Whittemore
was a
Navy
submarine
decoy
ship
in
World
War
I
; she was
eventually
abandoned
at
sea
(1927)
by
later
owners
.
Clara
Davis
was
interned
in
Italy
during
World
War
I
, had a
series
of
European
owners
, and was
broken
up
in
1938
. The
Tifton
was
named
for the
Georgia
town
,
founded
by
Connecticut
native
Henry
Harding
Tift
, that
provided
much
of the
timber
for
McDonald's
. She had a
series
of
owners
and
foundered
in
January
1926
off
Hillsboro
Light
,
Florida
.
