Description	View of three four-masted schooners, the Charles Whittemore, Clara Davis and Tifton under construction at the M.B. McDonald yard, Pistol Point, Mystic, after the business went bankrupt. Handwriting on top center of the photograph reads "Mystic Conn". Over the middle vessel "Sch. Clara Davis" is written.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Shipbuilder Michael B. McDonald had worked in Madison, New London and Noank before launching M. B. McDonald & Sons on Pistol Point in Mystic, which he operated from 1903 to 1905. The firm built ten coasting schooners and a barge in this time period before going into bankruptcy in 1905. The schooners were completed in 1905 under the supervision of W. J. (William J.) Baker. The Charles Whittemore was a Navy submarine decoy ship in World War I; she was eventually abandoned at sea (1927) by later owners. Clara Davis was interned in Italy during World War I, had a series of European owners, and was broken up in 1938. The Tifton was named for the Georgia town, founded by Connecticut native Henry Harding Tift, that provided much of the timber for McDonald's. She had a series of owners and foundered in January 1926 off Hillsboro Light, Florida.
