Description	Wreck of the cargo liner S.S. Dakota, off Shirahama, Japan, March 3, 1907. Bow view of the vessel sinking.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Also handwritten in pencil on back:"4307/a/2-1/2 7111/Strips (?)". Dakota was built 1904 by Eastern Shipbuilding company of Groton, and owned by Great Northern Steamship Co. She was lost off Shirahama, Japan, March 3, 1907. Eastern Shipbuilding was in business from 1900 until shortly after the launch of the Dakota. It had been taken over by the United States Shipping Corporation in 1902. New London Ship and Engine Company (Nelseco) took over the site in 1910. Shortly thereafter Nelseco officially became a subsidiary of submarine maker Electric Boat Company. Electric Boat manufactured diesel engines for submarines on the former Eastern Shipbuilding site and later, submarines for the Navy. Mounted on board. Photo slightly torn at corners. Tack mark also in each corner.
