Description	Starboard view of the five-masted schooner Elvira Ball at Mystic wharf. Buildings on West Main Street can be seen in the right background. Printed at the bottom: "SCHR. ELVIRA BALL. OWNED BY THE GILBERT TRANSPORTATION CO. AT THE MYSTIC YARD".
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Elvira Ball, built by the Gilbert Transportation Company of Mystic and launched in 1907, was the smallest five-masted schooner built on the East Coast and the second and last vessel constructed by Gilbert. She was abandoned after a collision in 1909 off the coast of Virginia. Gilbert Transportation Company was located just south of the drawbridge on the Groton side of the river. Founded by Captain Mark L. Gilbert, the company specialized in repair and rebuilding work and was active from 1906-1909. Financial troubles resulted in the closing of the shipyard in 1909. Published by H.D. Utley, New London, Conn.
