Description	Starboard view of the four-masted schooner Quinnebaug on the launching ways at the M.B. McDonald & Sons shipyard, Pistol Point, Mystic.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Quinnebaug was launched in November 1903, reportedly the first four-masted schooner with no topmasts. Built to carry lumber, she was lost with all hands on her second voyage in 1904. Rubberstamped on back: "Elmer E. Waite,/ PHOTOGRAPHER,/ OLD MYSTIC, CONN."; handwritten in pen "Robert C Northam one who do the pictures/ P. O. Box 99/ Mystic Ct" and in pencil ".25 cents From Suttons Sparyard". Shipbuilder Michael B. McDonald had worked in Madison, New London and Noank before launching M.B. McDonald & Sons on Pistol Point in Mystic, which he operated from 1903 to 1905. The firm built ten coasting schooners and a barge in this time period before going into bankruptcy in 1905. The loss of the Quinnebaug and another McDonald-built vessel may have played a part in the company's financial troubles. Mounted on card, green and embossed on front, gray on back, 5 1/2 x 6 1/2 in.
