Description	Bow view of the schooner yacht Mohican on the launching ways at the Palmer shipyard in Noank. Several men can be seen on board her and on either side. A group of men on the right sit on and among strewn timber and planks. On the far right is a vessel being planked. In the water between the two vessels is a dump scow. A wood structure with windows can be seen on the left.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Mohican was launched in April 1884. She was designed by R. F. Loper and built for H. D. Burnham of the Eastern Yacht Club of Boston by Robert Palmer & Sons, Noank, 1884. Boat dimensions: 120' x 24' x 12-4'. The Palmer family's shipbuilding and repair facility, in operation from the mid-19th century until 1914, was one of the most prominent on the east coast. It was incorporated under several names, including R. & J. Palmer, Robert Palmer & Sons, and Robert Palmer & Son Shipbuilding and Marine Railway, and experienced substantial growth in the second half of the 19th century, specializing in the production of utilitarian barges and floats. Taken by Everett A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913.
