Description	Starboard bow view of the open deck oyster steamer Medea being towed by the oyster boat Mascot through an ice-choked harbor. One man can be seen on the Mascot deck. The vessel to the left and steamer visible in the left background are unidentified. A tall tower can be seen across the harbor.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Medea was built in South Norwalk, 1885. Her dimensions were 67 x 18.2 x 6.2 feet. Mascot was built in Greenport, New York, 1905. She was owned by the Andrew Radel Oyster Co. of Norwalk. Her dimensions were 71 x 20.2 x 6.6 feet. Location of the photograph is unknown. Oystering was an important Connecticut industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. New Haven and South Norwalk were among the centers of local and regional cultivation and harvesting. The peak period was 1885-1910.
