Description	Starboard bow view of the four-masted schooner Marie Gilbert in New London Harbor.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Built 1906 at Gilbert Transportation Company and named for the founder's wife, Marie Gilbert was a four-masted schooner with an auxiliary engine. She was stranded off the Florida coast in 1907 en route from Baltimore with a load of coal. Gilbert Transportation Company was located just south of the drawbridge on the Groton side of the river. Founded by Captain Mark L. Gilbert, the company specialized in repair and rebuilding work and was active from 1906-1909. Financial troubles resulted in the closing of the shipyard in 1909. Mounted on grey cardboard. Dimensions of mount: 10 x 12 in. Rubber-stamped on back: HALE'S STUDIO,/NEW LONDON, CONN./A Specialty of Photographing/FAMILY GROUPS, PICNIC PARTIES,/Marine Views, Teams, and Animals."
