Description	Port views of the three-masted schooner Winchester and two-masted schooner Oaks [sic] Ames at wharf in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The sidewheel steamer Nantucket can be seen behind the Winchester.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Oakes Ames was built by R. & J. Palmer, Noank, 1862. The Winchester was built in Bath Maine, 1882, by Goss, Sawyer & Co. The Palmer family's shipbuilding and repair facility, in operation from the mid-19th century unitll 1914, was one of the most prominent on the east coast. It was incorporated under several names, including R. & J. Palmer and Robert Palmer & Son Shipbuilding and Marine Railway, and experienced substantial growth in the second half of the 19th century, specializing in the production of utilitarian barges and floats.
